Will WalMart Be Home for Christmas?

Well, not this Christmas unfortunately. The Southern Chester County Region, especially the Oxford area has been awaiting their long-promised new WalMart store.

Neighbors saw a glimmer of hope when preliminary plans were presented in 1999, but multiple delays in sewer plan as well as other issues had stopped the process before it had a chance to get started.

This past week you could see the large equipment grading the land in preparation for construction. It was originally scheduled for the foundation stone to be laid sometime around late July or early August, but it seems that we are looking at somewhere around September at this point.  New jobs and increased traffic to Oxford is encouraging to most of the locals. At this point in time, loyal WalMart customers from that area were driving to Kennett, Parkesburg, or NorthEast MD.

We believe that Commercial Development opportunities will increase in the greater Oxford Area due to this current development. As Oxford's growth is recognized, you will see more retailers and businesses become interested in this lesser known part of Chester County.
